July 2011 Member of the Month, Cladette Luz Santivañez Viuda de Antuña

HNS is proud to recognize Cladette Luz Santivañez Viuda de Antuña  as the July 2011 Member of the Month.

Employer: I am a licensed clinical social worker in private practice.  The name of my business is Sammamish Consulting and Counseling Services. I have an office in Bellevue, Washington and in Federal Way, Washington.  In 2003, I returned to school to obtain a degree in Clinical Psychology.  I anticipate that I will graduate in 2012 from Argosy University-Seattle.

Clinical population you work with: I have worked with many different populations.  At one time I was a sex offender treatment provider. I am still on many EAP panels, have extensive work experience in Disaster Mental Health as well as working with victims of trauma.

Research interests and/or current research projects: I was very fortunate in being able to create my own practicum experience under the supervision of two forensic psychologists who allowed me to develop a practicum site at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP).  I have also completed a pre-doctoral internship and I am now an intern at this site.  I conduct forensic evaluations for immigration court andI respond to referral questions regarding asylum, withholding of removal, hardship,Trafficking, Violence Against Women, competency, etc. I also conduct the N648 (disability waiver).  My dissertation addresses the response of Spanish speaking women survivors of domestic violence who are seeking legal status in the US to the Spanish version of the Personality Assessment Inventory.

How did you get bitten by the Hispanic neuropsychology bug? I got bitten by HNS when I met Ted Judd at NWIRP.  He introduced me to the group.

What are some of the different jobs that you have had in your life? Besides being a mother to 4 children (my youngest just got engaged) and a grandmother to 7 and one on the way, I was a librarian at the University of Miami as an undergraduate student.  I was Director of Social Work at Miami Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital in Seattle and Tacoma General Hospital. I am still a consultant for the Tacoma Vet Center working with clinicians who serve clients with military sexual trauma.

Do you have any hidden talents? I love to cook

What is the closest you’ve come to having your 15 minutes of fame? When I testified before the Human Rights Commission regarding the rights of children born with disabilities.

What is the best advice your parents gave you? Don’t let anything hold you back from anything you really want to do.

What is the last book you read cover to cover? A medieval mystery historical novel
