Candidate’s Statement:  I am grateful to be considered for the position of member-at-large for HNS. I assisted in the creation of the new website for HNS within the last year. Since then, I have decided to become more involved in this growing organization that has the potential to fulfill a need in the delivery of neuropsychological services to an underserved patient population. As member-at-large, I would work with the executive committee and the members of HNS to implement more cohesive standards of care with Spanish-speaking populations, as well as contribute to the organization’s voice in communicating needs to further the quality of care with these populations.

Employer: Sharp Health Care, and private practice (owner)

Hometown: San Diego, CA

Research interests and/or current research projects.: At the moment, I am engaged in 100% clinical work. Lately, I’ve been wishing for normative information for the MMPI-2 with Latino groups as well as medical populations.

Name one thing not many people know about you: I like to write music on the piano, though inspiration (and time to sit there and write) comes once in a blue moon.

What is something you’ve won and how did you win it? I never win anything; I’m not very lucky when it comes to contests. The last thing I remember winning was a hula-hoop contest when I was 12. I won that by hula-hooping the longest amount of time as others dropped away.

What is something you should throw away, but can’t? An Albert Ellis t-shirt that says “You Can Do It!” It’s ugly, but it’s so comfortable, and motivational!

What book are you reading right now? Aside from neuropsychology textbooks to refresh my knowledge and prepare for ABPP-cn certification, I am also reading David Sedaris’ When You Are Engulfed in Flames.

If given a choice to skip work for a day, how would you spend the day? Go surfing with some friends who always seem to have free time on their hands. Then pick up my son from school and go eat In N Out burger.
